Matthias Deumlich explores in his work the existential themes and aesthetics of form and versatile aspects of sound. His objects and installations combine sound, light and video. He often uses drawings, photographies, light, kinetic and paper objects in his artworks. He has had solo and participated at group exhibitions in different art institutions all around Europe.

He was born in 1962 in berlin.

He studied book and offset printing from 1981-84, and percussion from 1984-86.

He worked as a musician and taught percussion in berlin 1986-88, and he released first soundinstallation in 1988.

In 1997 he received a grant from academy of arts berlin. He studied at the berlin university of art with Rebecca Horn.

He was a guest instructor at the at the academy of arts stuttgart and franfurt 1998 and 2004.

He stayed a three-month stay in the alps nearby Schwanstein Castle – grant from Bavarian State Forestry 2009.

He was grant recipient of the academy of arts berlin.1998 – and grant recipient of the Meuseums Quartier Vienna 2013, during this term he curated the group exhibition ”Dive and Run” for the freiraum international Museums Quartier Vienna.

He released a permanent soundinstallation for the sculptures park at the Max Delbrück Centrum Berlin and in 2002 a memorial mural for the Strasse der Nationen, in the former Ravensbrück concentration camp.
